Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has ordered an investigation into the fatal shooting of a dog by LAPD officers during a Knicks NBA Finals celebration last weekend.
The dog, Jameson, was a mixed golden retriever, Saint Bernard, and poodle. Officers responded to a distress call of a woman screaming at an apartment complex on Saturday.

According to a press release, Bass said, "Every life lost to violence is a tragedy, and we know that the devastating loss of Jameson will be felt by his family forever."
Bass also stated she personally spoke with LAPD Chief of Police Jim McDonnell to ensure accountability for any wrongdoing.

She said she will monitor the "transparent and thorough" investigation.

During the incident, officers ordered the dog's owner, Marie Marseille, to secure Jameson. Police claim the dog charged at them, prompting them to open fire.
The shooting occurred shortly after Marseille celebrated the Knicks' 94-90 victory over the Spurs to win the NBA Finals trophy.

Marseille told TMZ that the LAPD has not yet apologized for killing her dog.
