The Oppo Reno 16 attempts to fill the gap for compact smartphones in the mid-premium segment.

With a 6.32-inch display, premium build, and a massive 6,700mAh battery, it offers a rare one-handed experience.

But does its Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset justify the Rs 61,999 starting price? We spent time with the Twilight Violet 8GB+256GB variant to find out.

Design and Build: Compact and Durable

Oppo has always excelled at smartphone design, and the Reno 16 continues that tradition. The Twilight Violet finish looks elegant, with a matte rear panel that resists fingerprints.

The aerospace-grade aluminum frame adds a flagship-like feel.

At just 182 grams and 8.22mm thick, the phone is comfortable for one-handed use.

Despite its slim profile, it carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, making it one of the most durable smartphones in its segment.

The dedicated AI Snap Key on the left frame serves as a shortcut for launching the camera or other functions.

However, the in-display fingerprint scanner is positioned slightly too low, occasionally requiring an extra thumb stretch.

Display and Audio: Immersive and Vibrant

The Reno 16 features a 6.32-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and up to 3,600 nits peak brightness.

Colors are vibrant, blacks are deep, and text appears razor-sharp. The slim symmetrical bezels enhance the premium feel.

Stereo speakers deliver good volume with clear vocals and decent stereo separation, making casual gaming and video streaming enjoyable without earphones.

Performance: Smooth Daily Use, Not for Power Users

Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset with 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, the Reno 16 handles everyday tasks smoothly.

Apps launch quickly, multitasking is effortless, and animations remain fluid.

Gaming performance is respectable, with BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile running at stable frame rates. The vapor chamber cooling system keeps the phone reasonably cool.

However, several competitors at this price offer flagship-grade chipsets with higher performance.
