SJCAM also gives you a generous selection of accessories with the C400.
The box includes the camera and battery grip, waterproof case, frame mount, base mount, base back clip, back clip, adapter, curved and flat mounts, lanyard, USB cable, screw, 3M adhesive stickers and a cleaning cloth.
This makes the C400 ready for a variety of mounting options straight out of the box, whether you’re using it handheld, attaching it to clothing or mounting it for POV footage.
The modular design also means you don’t always have to carry the larger grip.
The C400 records at up to 4K/30fps, with 2K/60fps and 1080p/120fps also available.
It supports slow motion, timelapse, loop recording, pre-recording, motion detection and car recording.
In good daylight, the footage is sharp enough for travel videos, casual vlogging and social media.
However, the 1/2.8-inch sensor means this isn’t a camera I’d pick primarily for challenging lighting conditions.
Low-light footage can look noisy and flat, while bright scenes can sometimes have blown-out highlights. Colors can also appear somewhat muted in certain situations.
The biggest specification limitation is the lack of 4K/60fps.

If you’re recording fast-moving subjects, 4K/30fps doesn’t offer the same fluidity as higher-end action cameras.
Slow motion is available at lower resolutions, with 2K supporting 60fps and 1080p reaching 120fps. For casual creators, however, 4K/30fps should be sufficient for most everyday use.
SJCAM uses six-axis gyro stabilization with its SteadyMotion V1.0 algorithm and offers Horizon Steady with up to 45 degrees of horizon correction.
The stabilization is useful for reducing everyday hand movement and makes walking footage more manageable.
However, it doesn’t match the sophisticated stabilization offered by DJI or GoPro’s higher-end action cameras. More aggressive movement can still produce noticeable jolts, particularly when running.
Horizon Steady does a better job of keeping the image level, but it also crops into the footage.
That means the C400 is better suited to travel, walking, casual cycling and everyday recording than demanding action sports.
The C400’s compact design makes it particularly interesting for vloggers.
The rotating display makes handheld recording convenient, while the detachable camera opens up more possibilities for POV and hands-free shots.
The biggest limitation here is audio. The C400 has a built-in microphone, but does not support an external microphone.
This can be a problem if you’re serious about vlogging, particularly when recording outdoors or with the camera mounted away from you.
Wind and surrounding environmental noise can also affect recordings, so the C400 works best when the camera is reasonably close to the subject.
Battery life is one of the C400’s strongest features.

The standalone camera is rated for up to 172 minutes of 4K/30fps recording, while the 3,000mAh battery grip increases the claimed runtime to 437 minutes, or more than seven hours.
