Rival demonstrations over transgender athletes in women's sports took place outside Barclays Center on Saturday.

About 60 supporters of Sophie Cunningham gathered, while more than 100 trans-rights advocates rallied nearby.

NYPD officers and metal barricades separated the crowds as fans entered the arena.

The Cunningham rally was organized by Liberty fan Dr. Elizabeth Fedak.

Cunningham sparked controversy with recent remarks about transgender participation in women's sports.

She said she felt compelled to stand up for young girls in sports and locker rooms.

She has not softened her stance, calling it 'common sense' while saying she does not hate transgender people.

Her teammate Caitlin Clark sidestepped questions on the issue earlier this month.

The WNBA said there are currently no transgender women playing in the league.

The league condemned attempts to use the debate to demean or marginalize others.

Enes Kanter Freedom, who declared for the WNBA, is heading to the Fever vs. Sky game in Chicago Sunday.
