The WNBA rivalry between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky took another heated turn on Saturday, as DiJonai Carrington was ejected after a hard foul on Sophie Cunningham, and the drama quickly spilled onto social media.
During the first quarter of the game in Chicago, Carrington made contact with Cunningham's head.
The officials initially called a common foul, but after a review, they upgraded it to a Flagrant 2 and ejected Carrington.
Cunningham got up quickly, and teammate Makayla Timpson stepped between the two players.
But the confrontation continued online shortly after the ejection, when a post reading “WHITE PRIVILEGE” appeared on Carrington's Threads account, tagging the Indiana Fever.
After the game, Cunningham addressed the post, suggesting Carrington was seeking attention.
She said she had no personal history with her, stating, "I don't even know her," though she felt the foul was "absolutely" intentional.
Cunningham also rejected the idea that race played a role, pointing to her own previous ejection for a hard foul.
Fever coach Stephanie White said she did not believe Carrington intentionally targeted Cunningham.
Saturday's confrontation also brought renewed attention to Carrington's history with Indiana.
In 2024, she accidentally made contact with Caitlin Clark's eye during a playoff game, sparking days of debate.
Now, Carrington and Cunningham have added another explosive chapter to the ongoing Fever-Sky rivalry.
