A woman and a 5-month-old girl died after their boat capsized near the Statue of Liberty on Saturday night, according to law enforcement.
The incident occurred off the coast of Liberty Island in New York Harbor, where 14 people were aboard the vessel when it suddenly overturned, throwing everyone into the choppy waters.

NYPD sources said Aviation and Harbor Units, along with a scuba diving team, responded quickly to the call about an overturned vessel.

The 27-year-old woman and the infant were pulled from the bay in critical condition and later pronounced dead at a Brooklyn hospital.

Fortunately, the other 12 people were rescued and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the capsizing remains unclear, and an investigation is ongoing.
