A distressed woman climbed the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City Wednesday night, but NYPD officers saved her before she could jump.
The incident occurred on the Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge around 8 p. m.
, according to police. The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was sitting on a support suspension beam.
Witnesses called 911, and the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit responded quickly. Officers climbed up to the woman and spoke with her for some time.
Eventually, she agreed to go to a local hospital for evaluation. The Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge was closed for about an hour during the rescue.
Video footage shows officers climbing the bridge as patrol car lights flash below. Paramedics later loaded the woman into an ambulance.
A photo published by a local outlet shows officers escorting the woman with her hands cuffed behind her back.
However, a police spokesperson confirmed she was not arrested or charged.
