President Donald Trump revealed he spoke with Senator Lindsey Graham just hours before the senator died from a sudden illness.
During a Sunday morning phone interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, Trump said he called Graham at 6:30 PM the previous evening and that Graham indicated he was tired but seemed fine.

Graham's staff confirmed the senator died from a brief and sudden illness shortly after the call. An exact cause of death has not been released.
CNN obtained dispatch audio from 8:30 PM — just two hours after Trump's call — in which a caller reported that someone at Graham's home suffered chest pains and appeared to go into cardiac arrest.

Trump told Tapper he learned of Graham's death at 2 AM Sunday and believes the senator must have died quickly given their recent conversation.

When Tapper attempted to shift the discussion to the Iran war, Trump grew slightly annoyed and said out of respect for Graham he would not discuss the Middle East.
Trump then pivoted to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, calling Graham's defense of Kavanaugh during his 2018 confirmation process his "finest moment."

Tapper ended the call by inviting Trump back on the show, but Trump did not commit, saying he wants CNN to "go on a normal path."
