The patent war between DJI and Insta360 has intensified in the United States. Days after DJI filed lawsuits against Insta360, the company responded with countersuits of its own.

Insta360 launched the Luna Ultra on June 10, 2026, a premium dual-lens gimbal camera developed with Leica.

It features 8K video, 4K 120fps slow-motion, a detachable OLED touchscreen, and advanced stabilization.

On the same day, DJI filed two lawsuits in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

DJI claims the Luna series infringes on its design and utility patents related to the Osmo Pocket lineup.

The company seeks a permanent sales ban in the US and damages.

Insta360 struck back on June 12 with two countersuits.

The company accuses DJI of infringing five of its utility patents covering gimbal stabilization, directional control, smooth camera stabilization, telemetry overlay, and panoramic video stabilization.

According to Insta360, these technologies appear in many DJI products, including the Osmo Pocket series, Ronin/RS gimbals, Osmo Mobile, and Osmo 360 cameras.

Insta360 founder JK Liu stated, “At Insta360, we prefer to let our products do the talking. But we are not afraid of a legal battle when challenged.

We are fully committed to protecting our innovations and will take decisive action to defend our intellectual property from infringement.”

Liu emphasized that the Luna Ultra resulted from years of internal R&D starting in 2020, building on earlier products like the ONE R, Link Series, and Flow gimbals.

He suggested DJI’s same-day lawsuit showed “fear of competition from a highly competitive product.”

The Luna Ultra, priced around $770, reportedly became a top seller in Amazon’s US camcorder category on its first day.

Insta360 sees it as a fresh option in the stabilized vlogging space due to its dual lenses and modular design.

This legal battle follows previous patent disputes between the two companies in China.
