Clive Davis, the legendary music mogul who shaped the careers of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Kelly Clarkson, and many others, has died.
He was 94.

Davis passed away Monday at his home in New York City, according to the New York Times.
The cause of death has not been disclosed. However, Davis was hospitalized in New York last month after developing an upper respiratory infection.
His spokesperson said at the time that he was admitted out of an abundance of caution and expected a quick recovery.
He was discharged on June 4.

For decades, Davis was a towering figure in the music industry.
As a record executive, he discovered and nurtured some of the biggest names in pop, rock, and soul.
His ear for talent and ability to craft hit records earned him a reputation as a kingmaker.

Davis began his career at Columbia Records, where he signed Janis Joplin and Bruce Springsteen. He later founded Arista Records, home to Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.
He also launched the careers of Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, and many others.
His influence extended beyond individual artists. Davis helped shape the sound of popular music for generations, from the 1960s through the 2000s.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

Davis is survived by his family. Details on memorial services are pending.
