The PBA announced his death, with Commissioner Tom Clark revealing that Butturff passed away "unexpectedly" on Friday.

Clark remembered Butturff as "one of the most unique players in PBA history," praising his distinctive delivery and his ability to win at any time.

"Fans marveled at his delivery, as he rode a wave of strikes into becoming a top player in the sport," Clark said in a statement.

"Jakob was kind, he was respectful, and he was a champion. He will never be forgotten."

A cause of death has not been given.
