The update follows four beta builds released since February.

Eligible Pixel Devices

The Android 17 update is available for a wide range of Pixel devices, starting from the Pixel 6 series.

Eligible models include Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 10a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a.

Google rolls out the update to all eligible devices simultaneously, though availability may vary by region. Users can check for updates by navigating to Settings > System > System Update.

Non-beta users will receive a larger package, while beta users get a smaller update as most changes were already delivered via early builds.

Key New Features

Android 17 introduces several AI-powered features.

Lyria 3 generates original music from text or image prompts, and Gemini Omni creates custom video clips from text prompts (requires a Gemini Pro subscription).

Voice Translate is now available on the Pixel 10a, and Manual Call Screen expands to India.

Quick Share with AirDrop support comes to Pixel 9a and Pixel 8a, while the Pixel 10 series gets Magic Cue.

The Bubbles feature receives its biggest upgrade yet, now supporting all apps instead of just messaging apps.

Users can long-press an app icon and select Bubble to turn any app into a floating bubble.

On tablets and foldables, a new Bubble Bar organizes app bubbles in the bottom-right corner.

Screen Reactions lets users record themselves using the selfie camera while capturing the screen, eliminating the need for a green screen.

This is useful for tutorials, reaction videos, or gameplay recordings.

Foldable gaming mode splits a foldable device into a 50/50 layout with the game on top and a dynamic gamepad below.

It will be available in the coming months. Android 17 also supports native controller remapping for external controllers.

The 'Continue On' feature allows seamless task transition between Android devices.

Users can open an app on their phone and continue on a tablet without losing state, with a suggestion appearing in the tablet taskbar.

Security and Privacy Upgrades

Android 17 lets users grant temporary precise location access to apps.

A new 'Mark as lost' feature in Find Hub locks a missing phone behind biometrics, preventing thieves from unlocking it even if they know the passcode.

Users can also grant temporary access to specific contacts, and apps cannot track changes to contact information.
