Sony has introduced the LYTIA L910, a new smartphone camera sensor designed to enhance image quality in difficult lighting conditions.

It is the first model in the LYTIA family to feature Sony's LOFIC architecture.

Key Features of the LYTIA L910

The LYTIA L910 is a 1/1.28-inch stacked CMOS sensor with approximately 50 effective megapixels and a 1.22μm pixel size.

Its standout capability is achieving a dynamic range of up to 100 dB from a single exposure.

Unlike conventional HDR methods that combine multiple exposures, Sony's approach captures all required image data in one shot.

This reduces motion blur and flickering when photographing moving subjects or bright light sources.

Sony pairs the LOFIC structure with Triple Conversion Gain HDR technology.

The sensor reads information from a single exposure at three different conversion gains, improving detail preservation in both bright and dark areas.

This minimizes highlight clipping and reduces noise in shadow regions for more balanced images with smoother tonal transitions.

The sensor also incorporates Ultra High Conversion Gain circuit technology, which improves charge-to-voltage conversion efficiency.

Sony claims random noise is reduced by about 30% compared to the LYTIA 828 sensor, enhancing low-light image quality in environments like night-time cityscapes with LED lighting.

An optimized circuit design lowers power requirements during image processing. This enables 4K HDR video recording at 60fps while maintaining high dynamic range.

The LYTIA L910 can capture full-resolution 50-megapixel images at up to 30fps and 12.5-megapixel images at up to 120fps.

Availability and First Devices

Sony plans to begin mass-production shipments of the sensor in summer 2026.
