Hal Williams, the actor best known for playing Officer "Smitty" Smith on the 1970s sitcom "Sanford and Son," has died at age 91.
His manager, Zna Portlock Houston, confirmed that Williams died Wednesday morning from natural causes at his home in Rancho Mirage, California.

He had been dealing with some health issues.
Houston said Williams felt tired after returning two weeks ago from Ohio, where he attended a reunion celebrating "Sanford and Son" with former castmate Howard Platt.

Williams launched his TV career in 1972 with the role of Smitty on "Sanford and Son," starring alongside Redd Foxx and Demond Wilson.
