Samsung may be taking a page from gaming phone makers by exploring active liquid cooling for its Galaxy lineup.

According to a report from South Korea, the company has established a dedicated research team under its Production Technology Research Institute to evaluate advanced cooling systems.

The team is looking at both liquid- and air-based solutions, with liquid cooling emerging as the more promising option.

Unlike the vapor chambers used in current smartphones, the proposed system would feature a sealed loop that continuously circulates coolant throughout the device.

This technology could help address a growing challenge: sustaining peak performance during demanding tasks like gaming, video editing, or on-device AI processing.

When temperatures rise too high, phones typically throttle performance to protect components.

Active air cooling is also being considered, but it comes with trade-offs.

Air vents can compromise dust and water resistance, and the required fan adds noise and mechanical complexity.

The concept isn't entirely new. Several Chinese brands have already implemented advanced cooling in performance-focused devices.

The RedMagic 11 Pro series, for instance, uses a miniature piezoelectric ceramic micropump to move coolant through a closed loop.

What makes Samsung's interest significant is the potential scale.

If active liquid cooling reaches a Galaxy flagship, it would expose the technology to a far broader audience than niche gaming phones ever could.

However, the project is still in the research phase.

Samsung has not announced any plans to launch a liquid-cooled smartphone, and many internal investigations never progress beyond prototypes.

Still, the fact that Samsung is now exploring technologies already present in Chinese smartphones signals where the industry may be heading.
