Samsung has introduced its new P Series portable solid-state drives, the P9 and P7, at Gamescom 2026.
These drives feature USB4 connectivity, delivering significantly higher transfer speeds than previous models.

Specifications and Performance
Both the P9 and P7 use a USB4 Gen 3×2 interface with 40Gbps bandwidth.
Samsung claims sequential read speeds up to 4,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 3,800 MB/s.
This is roughly double the speed of the older T9 drive, which used USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 and capped at 2,000 MB/s.
The P9 is the higher-end model aimed at professionals handling large files.

It is the first 8TB USB4 portable SSD to support these speeds, with sustained write performance for tasks like 12K video recording.
Thermal guarding manages heat during extended transfers, preventing throttling during long shoots.
The P7 targets standard consumers, offering the same peak speeds but lacking the specialized sustained write optimizations.
Both drives are compact, measuring 9.0 cm by 6.5 cm and weighing under 100 grams.

Compatibility includes Windows, macOS, and Android, with backward compatibility to older USB standards.
Pricing and Availability
The P9 is priced at $339.99 for 1TB, $649.99 for 2TB, $1,349.99 for 4TB, and $2,699.99 for 8TB.
The P7 starts at $289.99 for 1TB, $549.99 for 2TB, $1,149.99 for 4TB, and $2,289.99 for 8TB.
