Samuel Monroe Jr., the actor recognized for his role in "Menace II Society," has died at age 52.

His family confirmed he passed away after a battle with meningitis.

His mother, Joyce Patton, told TMZ that Monroe died around 10:24 PM PT on Wednesday at a hospital.

She also announced his death on Facebook, writing "today God called him home" and asking for prayers for his family, especially his three children.

In April, Monroe was hospitalized with a severe case of meningitis and MRSA pneumonia, along with other medical issues.

However, TMZ reported that a hospital representative said he had been discharged alive on Thursday morning.

Monroe began his acting career in 1993 with his most notable film, "Menace II Society."

He also appeared in other movies such as "Tales From The Hood," "Set It Off," "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood," and "The Player's Club."

On television, he had roles in shows like "NYPD Blue," "Murder One," "Smart Guy," "Southland," and "The Lion's Den."

Legal Dispute

Recently, Monroe was involved in a legal dispute between his mother and Shawna Stewart, who claimed to be his wife.

Patton filed a petition for conservatorship, questioning the validity of Stewart's marriage to her son.

Stewart told TMZ that she held Monroe's power of attorney and managed his finances.

She stated that Monroe did not want his mother to control his finances or decisions about his quality of life.
