The Huawei MatePad Pro Max (2026) takes a radically different approach from other flagship tablets.

Instead of piling on specs and weight, Huawei focused on extreme thinness and lightness.

At just 4.7mm thick and 499 grams, it is nearly 200 grams lighter than the same-size iPad Pro.

After a month of daily use, here is how it performs.

Design and Build

The tablet feels impossibly light. You can pinch it between two fingers and carry it around like a notepad.

Huawei calls the construction "Cloud Falcon Architecture," and it earned TÜV Rheinland's ultra-thin bend-resistance certification. The device remained rigid even under moderate twisting.

The review unit came in a blue "Flow Back" finish.

The 3.5mm headphone jack is gone, but the six-speaker HUAWEI SOUND system delivers decent bass and clear vocals, making it great for movies and podcasts.

Display

The 13.2-inch flexible OLED panel has no notch or punch-hole, offering a 94% screen-to-body ratio.

The 3K resolution (3000 x 2000) and 144Hz refresh rate ensure smooth scrolling and gaming.

Two variants are available: a standard glossy OLED with vibrant colors and 2,000,000:1 contrast, and a PaperMatte Edition with nano-etched glass that reduces glare and adds paper-like friction for the stylus.

The PaperMatte version is slightly less punchy for media but excellent for outdoor use and note-taking.

Peak brightness of 1600 nits only activates for specific HDR scenes; typical brightness is adequate for most conditions but not as bright as a smartphone under direct sun.

Productivity

The tablet supports running three apps side by side without lag.

However, external monitor support is limited to mirroring, not desktop expansion, which disappoints users wanting a dual-monitor setup.

The M-Pencil Pro pairs well, especially with the PaperMatte screen. The GoPaint app offers natural brush strokes and smart color suggestions.

A standout feature is AI handwriting beautification in HUAWEI Notes, which transforms messy handwriting into neat script without looking robotic.

The Glide Keyboard has short key travel but snappy feedback, suitable for typing short articles.
