Huawei has officially revealed the design of its upcoming tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT 2.

The new model features a U-shaped fold, a departure from the Z-shaped design of its predecessor.

Official images show the device in a striking purple color. The fold pattern resembles Samsung's tri-fold, but the panels fold in a different order.

Unlike the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold, which opens from the left panel, the Mate XT 2 opens to the right.

This U-shaped design protects the inner screen when folded, as the flexible display tucks inside the body.

This is a significant advantage, given that a replacement screen for the original Mate XT costs 4,999 yuan.

The design reduces the risk of accidental cracks.

Display and camera details

The outer screen features a pill-shaped cutout for the front camera, similar to Huawei's candybar flagships.

This suggests the device may support 3D face recognition, as rumored for the Pura 90 Ultra.

The rear camera module retains the octagonal shape seen on last year's model.

Performance and software

Huawei is expected to equip the Mate XT 2 with the Kirin 9030S chip, the same processor found in the Pura X View.

This chip debuted in the Pura 90 Pro and Pro Max and now powers most of Huawei's flagship lineup.

The chipset includes a super core at 2.69GHz, three large cores at 2.15GHz, and four medium cores at 1.62GHz.

It pairs with a Maleoon 935F GPU running at 933MHz with three compute units.

The Mate XT 2 will be the first phone to run HarmonyOS 7.

Its Ark Engine integrates a large model into the system for the first time, trained on over 2 billion scene-learning data points.

Huawei claims this boosts performance by 15% while keeping annual load growth under 10%.
