Craig Melvin is taking Thursday's frightening studio intrusion in stride. The 'Today' anchor said he feels safe despite the encounter, calling it part of a 'wacky' world.
Speaking to reporters outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Friday, Melvin appeared calm. He downplayed the incident, noting there is 'a lot of wacky out there.'
The alleged intruder, identified as Andrew Truelove, reportedly bypassed security and asked for Al Roker.
When he couldn't find Roker, he confronted Melvin in a restricted area, allegedly lunging at him while shouting a racial slur.
Melvin initially told police the incident made him fear for his safety, but he now seems unfazed.
He addressed the event on Friday's broadcast, expressing gratitude that the suspect was arrested and no one was hurt.
Truelove is being held at Rikers Island on $20,000 bail. He faces multiple hate crime charges.
A court order bars him from approaching Melvin or Roker at NBC or their homes.
Authorities revealed Truelove has a lengthy criminal history, including a felony conviction.
