The OnePlus 16 may not launch in any international market at all, according to a new leak.
Tipster Yogesh Brar suggests the OnePlus 16R could become the brand's top phone in India next year.
If accurate, India would not receive a numbered OnePlus flagship next year.
That would break from how OnePlus has run things in India for years, when a numbered flagship shipped alongside its R-series counterpart.
The R-series traditionally traded the top chipset and camera hardware for a bigger battery and a lower price.
The OnePlus 12R was based on the China-exclusive OnePlus Ace 3, while the OnePlus 13R followed a similar approach with the OnePlus Ace 5.
The pattern changed with the OnePlus 15R, which was based on the OnePlus Ace 6T instead of continuing from the Ace 5 series.
That makes it difficult to predict which China model could become the OnePlus 16R.
OnePlus has yet to reveal anything about the Ace 7 series, so there is currently no clear model to link it to.
Meanwhile, the numbered OnePlus 16 is still expected to launch in China.
It is tipped to carry a 9,000mAh battery, the largest yet on a OnePlus flagship.
Earlier leaks also suggest a price hike over the OnePlus 15 in its home market.
Skipping India would carry more weight this time around.
OnePlus has already pulled out of North America and Europe, so if it leaves the OnePlus 16 out of India as well, the phone ends up as a China-exclusive device with no major market outside its home turf.
However, those details may not matter much for Indian buyers if the OnePlus 16 remains exclusive to China.
Nothing has been confirmed by OnePlus yet, and the company has not commented on a possible change to its Indian lineup.
Brar has a solid track record with OnePlus leaks, but for now, the leak should be treated with caution.
