Huawei has launched the Mobile WiFi 5 eSIM edition (model E5586-822-E) in China, priced at an introductory 269 yuan ($40).
The regular retail price will be 299 yuan ($44) after the promotional period.
This portable hotspot features a built-in eSIM, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card.
Design and eSIM Features
Weighing just 96 grams and measuring 13.7mm thick, the device is about 15% thinner than its predecessor.
It comes in a single cyan color with a textured finish, small enough to fit in a pocket or small bag.
The eSIM supports both China Mobile and China Unicom networks, automatically switching to the stronger signal.
Users can manually select their preferred carrier via the Huawei Smart Life app.
A physical SIM card slot is also available, but it only accepts standard carrier SIMs, not IoT SIMs.
The app manages data plans, showing available packages, usage, and expiration dates.
Huawei warns that once the eSIM profile is activated, the assigned number cannot be rewritten; deleting it results in permanent loss.
Connectivity and Battery
The hotspot operates only on the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, with a maximum theoretical speed of 300Mbps.
Huawei claims download speeds are 30% faster than the older Mobile WiFi 3, though 2.4GHz may face interference in crowded areas.
It supports up to 16 connected devices simultaneously.
A 2400mAh battery provides around eight to nine hours of continuous use per charge.
Charging is via a USB Type-C port, compatible with most modern devices.
