Elijah Bieniemy, the 27-year-old son of Kansas City Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy, reportedly contacted police days before the alleged shooting of his mother, complaining that his parents were withholding his firearms.
According to The Athletic, Elijah told police on July 24 that his parents were "withholding" his weapons, explaining he needed them to defend himself as "a certified UFC fighter."

However, there is no evidence linking him to the UFC.
During the call, Elijah claimed his parents allowed him to stay at their Virginia home only if he gave up his guns, with the promise they would be returned when necessary.
He said they refused to hand them over when he wanted to go to the gun range.

Two other calls involving the Bieniemy family were made before the shooting. On June 22, police responded to a "suspicious circumstance" at their residence.
On June 26, a college counselor requested a welfare check on Elijah, but officers did not consider it urgent due to his lack of access to weapons.
Elijah was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling following the July 26 incident.

His initial court date was postponed after his public defender requested a competency evaluation, which was granted.
Mia Bieniemy, who suffered two gunshot wounds, has been transferred out of the ICU and continues to recover.
Eric Bieniemy left Chiefs training camp to be with his wife and has not yet returned to the team.

Neighbors' video obtained by Loudoun Now shows police with guns drawn forcing entry into the Bieniemy residence and bringing Elijah out in handcuffs.
