Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong has not clarified whether she still wants Thanksgiving canceled.
During a CNN interview, Kaitlan Collins asked the Democratic socialist about her stance on the holiday.
Hong, a chef and restaurant owner, responded for 46 seconds without giving a direct yes or no.
She said bringing people together around a table is "always a good thing," but acknowledged Thanksgiving is "incredibly painful" for many communities.
Collins referenced a since-deleted 2021 post in which Hong wrote, "Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621."
In that post, Hong called the holiday a celebration of colonialism and described the original Thanksgiving as a "superspreader event" that harmed Indigenous people and women.
When pressed on whether she still supports her past comments, Hong pivoted to her campaign, arguing her hospitality experience would help unite people as governor.
The interview concluded without a clear answer on the holiday's future.
