The state autopsy report for Nolan Wells is officially complete, but the findings have not been released, according to NBC News.
The Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office conducted the autopsy on July 7 and has reached its conclusions, but has not shared them publicly—not even with the family or their attorney, Ben Crump.

This development follows an independent autopsy commissioned by the family, who enlisted Dr. Roger J. Mitchell to examine the 18-year-old's body.
In his report, Mitchell determined that Nolan's cause and manner of death were "undetermined" pending further investigation, and he did not rule out foul play.

Mitchell noted that his findings were limited because he did not have immediate access to Nolan after his body was found washed ashore on Horn Island on July 6.

Nolan disappeared on July 4 after a boat trip with friends to Horn Island, off the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Mitchell also said he was constrained by not having full access to some of Nolan's body parts currently with law enforcement, and he lacked complete information on how Nolan may have drowned.

The Jackson County District Attorney has convened a grand jury to review the case to determine if criminal charges are warranted, which is standard practice in the county for unnatural deaths.
