Sam Neill, the acclaimed actor best known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in 'Jurassic Park,' has died at the age of 78.
His family announced his passing on Monday.

Neill died in a hospital in Sydney, Australia. His family described the death as 'sudden and unexpected' in a statement posted to Instagram.
The Irish-born actor had recently recovered from a rare and aggressive blood cancer. He revealed in April that he was cancer-free.
The cause of death has not been released.

Neill began his film career in 1977 with roles in 'Sleeping Dogs,' 'My Brilliant Career,' and 'The Omen.'
In 1989, he starred alongside Nicole Kidman in 'Dead Calm.'
In 1990, he played Soviet Captain Vasily Borodin in 'The Hunt for Red October.'

His biggest year came in 1993, when he starred in both 'Jurassic Park' and 'The Piano.'
Throughout the 1990s, Neill maintained a prominent career with leading roles in 'In the Mouth of Madness,' 'Event Horizon,' 'The Horse Whisperer,' and 'Bicentennial Man.'
He reprised his role as Dr. Grant in 2022's 'Jurassic World Dominion.'

On television, Neill appeared in popular series such as 'Reilly: Ace of Spies,' 'The Tudors,' 'Peaky Blinders,' and 'Apples Never Fall.'
