Serena Williams' much-anticipated Wimbledon doubles reunion with sister Venus is now uncertain after the 44-year-old injured her right knee during a singles match on Tuesday.
Williams suffered the injury in the first set of her opening-round loss to Maya Joint at the All England Club, according to her agent Jill Smoller.

Smoller said the injury was why Williams did not speak with reporters after the match.
"Serena tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set and was therefore excused from her media obligations by the Wimbledon and WTA medical teams," Smoller stated.
Williams is scheduled to team up with Venus for doubles on Friday, but her availability is in question.

"She left site that night unaided and is doing everything she can to be ready for her doubles match later this week," Smoller added.
Williams was reportedly advised not to continue playing after the injury but pushed through the match. She was offered crutches afterward but declined.

Tuesday's match was Williams' first singles appearance in four years.
Her comeback began at the HSBC Championship at the Queen's Club in London last month, where she played doubles with 19-year-old Victoria Mboko.
That run ended early due to a knee injury to Mboko.

Against Joint, Williams won the second set via tiebreaker but lost the first and third sets 6-3. Despite the loss, many fans celebrated her return to competition.
