Sony appears to be moving forward with its next flagship smartphone. Recent database entries suggest the Xperia 1 IX is already in early development.
Japanese site S-Max spotted three new model numbers in the GSMA’s IMEI database, registered around early August. These codes follow the usual pattern for the Xperia 1 series.
Three models for different markets
The listed models are XQ-HH44, XQ-HH54, and XQ-HH74.
The first is Japan-focused and eSIM-only, the second targets Europe, and the third is for other markets including Greater China.
In Sony’s naming system, the leading “H” indicates a 2027 model year, while the “4” at the end confirms eSIM support.
The internal names associated with these codes are PM-1545-BV, PM-1540-BV, and PM-1541-BV.
Some reports also note that the Japanese version is marked as compatible with 3GPP satellite communication standards.
The Walkman Blog pointed out that the Xperia 1 VIII appeared in the same database in November 2025, and the 1 VII in October 2024.
Seeing the IX listed this early doesn’t necessarily mean an earlier launch, as registration timing can vary for regulatory or production reasons.
Still, the early appearance indicates Sony is actively working on the next generation, rather than scaling back its smartphone efforts.
The company has maintained a consistent yearly rhythm for its premium Xperia 1 line, even with lower volumes compared to mass-market players.
The next model is expected to continue the series’ focus on display quality, imaging, and audio.
However, pricing could be affected by the ongoing DRAM shortage, which may push component costs higher and lead to a price increase when the Xperia 1 IX arrives next year.
No other specifications, including chipset, cameras, or battery, have leaked yet. More details should emerge closer to the expected 2027 announcement window.
