The neighbor who called 911 before LAPD officers shot and killed a family's dog is speaking out, expressing deep regret for involving police.

Speaking anonymously to ABC7, the neighbor said they made the call because they couldn't reach a screaming woman inside a residence.

They were outside the condo building, shouting up and trying to get the family's attention, fearing the worst—especially as a domestic violence survivor themselves.

After repeated failed attempts to make contact, they called police. When officers arrived, the neighbor said, the response was far more aggressive than expected.

As previously reported, LAPD found a woman named Marie celebrating the Knicks' first championship in over 50 years.

Police claim the dog charged them, but the family denies that. The dog was fatally shot.

The neighbor addressed Marie directly: "Marie, I'm so sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing.

They added they will think twice before calling police for a welfare check in the future.
