Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman is scheduled to hold a press conference Tuesday morning outside the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Downtown Los Angeles.
He is expected to address the latest developments in the murder case against Nick Reiner, according to a press release.
The conference comes after sources said prosecutors do not plan to pursue the death penalty in the case.
Nick Reiner is charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances, specifically lying in wait, after allegedly murdering his parents last year at their L.
A. home.
He could still face a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Reasons Behind the Death Penalty Decision
Sources cited various reasons for not seeking the death penalty, including opposition from Rob and Michele Reiner.
Nick's siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, are not aligned with him and did not contribute to his defense.
However, they would have a hard time during potential sentencing if execution were on the table.
Governor Gavin Newsom also weighed in on the death penalty in a 2019 order, which put more than 700 executions on permanent pause.
Nick Reiner is due in court later today.
