Apple has increased prices on several current iPhone models by $100, just after launching its newest devices.
The move breaks from the company's typical practice of reducing prices on older phones when new ones arrive.
The affected models include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air, and iPhone 16.
In the US, the base iPhone 17 now starts at $899, the iPhone 17e at $699, the iPhone Air at $1,099, and the 128GB iPhone 16 at $799.
The new prices are being rolled out in all markets where these models are still sold.
In India, the iPhone 17 now starts at ₹99,900, the iPhone Air at ₹1,49,900, the iPhone 17e at ₹79,900, and the iPhone 16 at ₹89,900.
Memory Chip Shortage Drives Increases
The price hikes are linked to an ongoing shortage of memory chips, driven by heavy demand from AI data centers.
Apple has already raised prices on other products like Macs, iPads, and HomePods due to the same rising component costs.
The changes came after Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro series and the new foldable iPhone Duo.
At that time, Apple also removed the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max from its direct lineup.
Carrier deals and trade-in offers might still soften the impact for some buyers.
However, the official list price increases signal that component costs continue to affect the smartphone market.
