Kevin Reddington, the lawyer representing Lindsay Clancy, has sharply criticized Senator Ted Cruz over his recent comments about the high-profile murder case.
Reddington called Cruz's remarks 'despicable' and accused the senator of rage-baiting, according to a statement released Thursday to the New Haven Register.
The dispute began last week when Cruz told Newsmax's Rob Finnerty that Clancy 'didn't just murder' her three children.
Cruz claimed she 'slowly, deliberately, systematically used exercise bands to strangle the life out of one after the other, after the other.'
Reddington, who has publicly asked President Trump for a pardon even though the case is at the state level, did not hold back in his response.
In his statement, he told Cruz: 'Senator Cruz, you, sir, are despicable. You clearly do not come close to understanding the basic concept of postpartum psychosis.
Quite frankly, that is not surprising.'
He further called Cruz's comments 'reprehensible' and added, 'You obviously do not know the first thing about mental health or the woeful state of medical and psychiatric care in our country.
Instead of making a rational observation, you call for her execution.'
Reddington also extended an invitation for a face-to-face discussion, saying, 'You know where to find me.'
Clancy faces three counts of murder for allegedly strangling her children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan.
She attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window at her home, resulting in paralysis and confinement to a wheelchair.
The judge declared a mistrial after the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict, and Clancy is now seeking a not-guilty finding by reason of lack of criminal responsibility.
