Sony has quietly begun rolling out the Android 17 update, starting with the Xperia 1 VIII.
The company also published a post detailing the changes and new features, along with the complete list of eligible devices.
The update for the Xperia 1 VIII carries firmware version 73.1. A.
2.61 and is about 1.2GB in size. The initial rollout is limited to Europe, but it should expand to more regions soon.
Users can manually check for the update by going to Settings > Software Update. Since the rollout happens in batches, availability may depend on your region.
What’s new in Android 17 for Sony phones?
Android 17 introduces a new Desktop mode and an updated Quick Settings panel that lets you resize and rearrange tiles.
Larger tiles can now feature short descriptions.
The “Wallpapers & style” feature has been updated with new wallpapers and clock designs. You can also customize the shape and size of icons for a more personalized experience.
Screen recording has been upgraded to allow recording the entire screen or just a single app. It also enables recording device and microphone audio simultaneously.
Exclusive to the Xperia 1 VIII, the AI Camera Assistant in Photo mode lets you register up to three custom looks with custom names.
You can save your favorite color tones and settings as custom looks and quickly switch between them.
Sony devices eligible for Android 17 update
Sony has also published a list of devices eligible for the upgrade.
The list includes the Xperia 1 VIII, Xperia 1 VII, Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 10 VIII, and Xperia 10 VII.
