Xiaomi has introduced the Smart Switch 2, now available for pre-order on a crowdfunding platform in China starting at 69 yuan (~$10).
The new model succeeds last year's Smart Switch Pro, featuring a more durable shell and simplified installation for older homes.
Buyers can choose from single, double, or triple button panels in white or space gray.
Each panel uses acrylic glass and fits the standard 86-type wall-mounted junction box common in Chinese households.
The panel is 11mm thick, while the wall-mounting base extends 21.2mm deep.
Built for older homes
Under the glass, the shell is made of V-0 fire-retardant PC material, which Xiaomi says can withstand an 850°C flame-retardant test.
The buttons feature a short-travel silicone buffer for quieter clicks, and a status light under each button indicates whether the circuit is on or off.
A key upgrade is wiring flexibility: the Smart Switch 2 supports both single-live and neutral-wire setups, automatically detecting the configuration at power-on.
This eliminates the need for manual DIP switch adjustments, making installation easier in both new and older homes.
Internally, the relay is rated for one million mechanical on/off cycles and uses zero-crossing detection to reduce component wear.
The switch also minimizes LED flicker caused by standby micro-currents and includes a temperature sensor that cuts the circuit if overheating occurs.
Xiaomi Mesh 2.0 and smart controls
Connectivity is handled via Xiaomi's Mesh 2.0 system, which the company claims improves switch response by 50% and reduces network setup time by 80% compared to the previous generation.
Users can control the switch locally via physical buttons, remotely through the Xiaomi Home app, or by voice using Xiao Ai.
Each button supports single-click, double-click, and long-press actions that can be customized.
A pure wireless mode allows the buttons to trigger other Xiaomi Home devices instead of controlling local power, enabling two-way control without additional wiring.
Pricing for the single-button version is 79 yuan (~$12) suggested, with a crowdfunding price of 69 yuan (~$10).
The double-button version is 89 yuan (~$13) suggested and 79 yuan (~$12) during crowdfunding, while the triple-button version costs 109 yuan (~$16) suggested and 99 yuan (~$15) for backers.
