The death of Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver's 2-year-old son has been ruled accidental, and the investigation is now closed with no criminal charges, authorities confirmed.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said its Homicide Division has closed the case and no charges will be filed against Ed or anyone else.

The toddler, also named Ed, drowned in the swimming pool at Oliver's Texas home on June 28.
Deputies responded to a life-in-danger call after the boy's parents found him unresponsive in the pool.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Oliver was seen speaking with law enforcement outside the home before breaking down in tears.

News of the tragedy did not become public until nearly two months later, and the way it came out drew a strong reaction from Oliver's Bills teammate, quarterback Josh Allen.
Allen said he was 'sad and angry' that a podcaster revealed the death before Oliver and his family were ready to share it themselves, while thanking those who knew and kept it private.

Authorities have now officially closed the case, determining the toddler's death was a tragic accident.
