Gayle King has opened up about her final interview with Hayden Panettiere, revealing the actress was not at her best but was clearly making an effort to get better.
Speaking to reporters in New York City on Friday, King was asked if there were warning signs during their May conversation, just months before Panettiere's untimely death.

King, who recently criticized Panettiere's mother for her public statement, said there were no obvious 'signs' of trouble, but admitted the actress was 'clearly still wobbly' and working through personal issues.
When asked about Panettiere's relationship with ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson, King said she wasn't surprised by reports that they remained connected behind the scenes.

She noted that reading Panettiere's book made it clear the actress still had feelings for Hickerson.
Panettiere was found unresponsive at a South Carolina residence earlier this week, with Hickerson asleep in another room.

Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead.
Following her death, tributes poured in from celebrities, and Neutrogena issued a public apology for its treatment of Panettiere, who had been a spokesperson before revealing her battle with postpartum depression.
