Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom has officially submitted paperwork to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, asserting that his move complies with the league's current rules.
The 34-year-old revealed the signed letter on Monday, which formally notifies the WNBA of his voluntary decision to enter the player pool for the 2027 draft.

In the letter, he cites the current collective bargaining agreement and states that he meets the age and eligibility requirements as outlined in Article XIII, Section 1(b).
Kanter Freedom, who wore a shirt reading "invest in women, pay women, hire women," also asked the league office to confirm receipt of the letter.

The third overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft first made headlines on Friday with his initial announcement, saying that if simply declaring who you are is all that's required, then he meets every requirement to compete in the WNBA.
He insisted his declaration was not a joke but a request for the rules to be applied equally to everyone, reflecting values that many WNBA players and coaches have publicly advocated for.

Former NBA player Royce White has also expressed similar interest in entering the draft, joining the apparent movement.
This comes amid a significant debate within the league, recently sparked by Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham, who said women should not have to face biological men in sports, calling it "common sense."
