Courtney Clenney made a plea deal on Monday that could see her released in less than two years.
She pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli. Clenney was originally facing second-degree murder.

Prosecutors and Clenney agreed to a six-year prison sentence. She receives credit for time served, having been behind bars for four years to the day.
With credits, she could be out in a little over a year and a half. This is a favorable outcome compared to the possibility of life in prison.
Even if there had been a hung jury, she would have remained in custody awaiting retrial, which could take at least a year.

Release Conditions and Transfer
Upon release, Clenney will be required to undergo mental health and substance abuse treatment.
She will be transferred from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center to a state prison facility in Florida.
The plea deal was reached last month, but details were only revealed on Monday.
After the deal was announced, Christian's family's attorney, Larry Handfield, said the sentence would bring his clients much-needed closure.

Clenney was arrested in August 2022 in Hawaii after stabbing Obumseli in their Miami apartment in April of that year.
She claimed self-defense, telling detectives she grabbed a knife but warned him not to come closer.
Body cam footage showed the aftermath, with Clenney covered in blood and handcuffed, her dogs nearby.

Another video captured her panicked, repeatedly asking officers if she had killed Christian.
