Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the latest iteration of its clamshell foldable, following last year's Galaxy Z Flip 7.
On the surface, the two devices look remarkably similar, but subtle changes in design, performance, and software set them apart.

The Flip 8 is slightly thinner and lighter, measuring 6.1mm when unfolded (down from 6.5mm) and weighing 180 grams (down from 188 grams).
Samsung also refined the hinge and Armor Aluminum frame for improved durability.
However, the displays remain identical: a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover screen and a 6.9-inch internal display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Flip 8 upgrades from the 3nm Exynos 2500 to a 2nm Exynos 2600 (or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 depending on region).

Both models come with 12GB of RAM.
The real focus is software: the Flip 8 ships with Android 17 and One UI 9, enhancing the cover screen's functionality with voice commands and a dedicated side key for app actions.
A new AI Assistant Activity Dashboard offers transparency into background tasks, but this feature will also come to the Flip 7 via a software update.
Cameras and Battery
Camera hardware is unchanged: a 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide, and 10MP front camera.
The Flip 8 adds Super Steady with Horizontal Lock for smoother video recording, but otherwise the camera experience mirrors the Flip 7.

Battery capacity stays at 4,300mAh with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging support.
The biggest change is pricing.
The Flip 7 launched at $1,099 for 256GB, while the Flip 8 starts at $1,199 for the same storage, with a 512GB option at $1,399.
For current Flip 7 owners, the upgrades are too incremental to justify the cost.

However, for those coming from a Flip 5 or an older phone, the Flip 8 offers the most polished clamshell foldable Samsung has made, albeit at a premium.
