Cam Newton has been laid off by ESPN, according to sources, becoming the latest high-profile name to lose his job in a sweeping round of cuts at the network.
The former NFL MVP joined ESPN in late 2024 and quickly became a regular on "First Take," where he served as Stephen A.

Newton was elevated to that role after Shannon Sharpe left ESPN last year.

His departure is part of a broader wave of layoffs that has also affected several other prominent figures.
Among those let go were Ryan Clark, who was dismissed during a broadcast of "NFL Live," and longtime commentator Karl Ravech.
The cuts also extended to NFL Network, which is owned and operated by ESPN. Analyst Charles Davis and reporter Tom Pelissero were among those fired there.

Newton, who earned over $133 million during his NFL career, is not entirely without work. He continues to host two successful podcasts, "4th & 1" and "Funky Friday."
While Newton may be the biggest name affected, sources indicate the layoffs are ongoing and more could follow.
