Food and Drug Administration has apologized to Taylor Farms for incorrectly claiming the company's supplier was linked to cyclospora-contaminated lettuce.

The FDA said it rechecked test samples from Taylor Farms de Mexico and found a "false positive" for the parasite, which causes severe diarrhea and gastrointestinal issues.
After the error was discovered, the agency issued an apology on Sunday.

Taylor Fresh Foods, parent company of Taylor Farms, told Newsweek that the FDA admitted no cyclospora was found in the lettuce.

Despite the false positive, Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled lettuce from a central Mexico supplier due to a possible cyclospora link.
During its investigation, the FDA identified Taylor Farms de Mexico as the sole supplier of lettuce to Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

In those states, people became ill from shredded iceberg lettuce associated with cyclosporiasis. The CDC advised consumers to avoid Taco Bell lettuce in those five states.
