Jim Gilstrap, the singer who collaborated with Stevie Wonder on the classic hit "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," has died at the age of 79.
His family confirmed the news.
Gilstrap passed away from natural causes on Saturday in Los Angeles, his nephew Geoffrey Gilstrap said in a statement.
The exact cause of death was not released.
Gilstrap's career spanned more than five decades.
He was best known as a session vocalist, working with Wonder and singing the theme song for the 1970s sitcom "Good Times."
Wonder won a Grammy Award for best male pop vocal performance for "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," which appeared on his 1972 album "Talking Book."
Gilstrap also contributed vocals to other Wonder albums, including "Fulfillingness' First Finale," "Wonderlove," and "Innerversions."
Gilstrap had a successful solo career.
In 1975, he released the hit singles "Swing Your Daddy" and "I'm on Fire," both from his album "Swing Your Daddy."
He later released a second solo album, "Love Talk."
Beyond Wonder, Gilstrap worked with many other iconic artists, such as Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, James Ingram, George Benson, Bill Withers, Gladys Knight, Luther Vandross, Patti LaBelle, Kenny Loggins, Dolly Parton, and Teddy Pendergrass.
