Olympic canoeist David Hearn pleaded not guilty Thursday during his arraignment on charges of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool liner.

Hearn faces a misdemeanor count of destruction of government property after he allegedly reached into the water and peeled off part of the newly installed pool liner last month.

The damage is estimated at more than $1,000, according to prosecutors.

Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro is prosecuting the case and has stated Hearn defiled the monument.

Hearn is one of at least four individuals facing charges for allegedly tampering with the pool.

The reflecting pool underwent renovations starting in April as part of President Trump's project.

The renovation faced issues including algae turning the water green and the liner peeling shortly after installation.

Security fencing was later added around the pool to deter vandals.

If convicted, Hearn could face up to 10 years in prison.
