HMD Global appears to be reviving one of Nokia's classic budget phones.

A certification listing for the "HMD TA-1779 (Type HMD Asha 305)" has appeared on HMD's own website, suggesting a modern update to the beloved Asha series.

The original Nokia Asha 305 launched in July 2012. It featured a 3-inch touchscreen, 2MP camera, and ran Nokia's S40 operating system.

Despite modest specs, it was popular for its affordability and practicality.

The new HMD Asha 305 will not be a direct re-release. The certification indicates it will include an LTE modem, providing 4G connectivity.

This makes it a modern successor rather than a pure nostalgia piece.

For a preview of what to expect, look at the HMD Touch 4G released in late 2025.

That phone has a 3.2-inch QVGA display, Unisoc T127 chipset, 64MB RAM, 128MB storage (expandable), a custom lightweight OS, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, dual SIM, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, and a removable 1,950mAh battery.

It weighs about 100g and offers excellent battery life for light use.

The Asha 305 is expected to follow a similar recipe: a simple, pocketable phone for basic tasks like calling, texting, and light media, without smartphone distractions.

HMD has found success reviving old Nokia favorites with 4G upgrades, such as the 3210.

Demand for such devices remains strong, whether as secondary phones or for those seeking a break from constant connectivity.
