Amazon's upcoming "God of War" series is undergoing a major change after its lead actor suffered a serious injury on set.

Ryan Hurst, who portrayed Kratos in the highly anticipated video game adaptation, tore his bicep while filming a stunt.

The injury requires surgery, and the recovery period is expected to extend into next year.

According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has decided to recast the role to avoid significant production delays. Filming is currently underway in Vancouver.

The series also features Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.

While Hurst's departure is unfortunate—especially for fans of his work on "Sons of Anarchy"—the decision allows the production to move forward without a lengthy hiatus.
