Emergency Medical Service workers are seen administering first aid as they lift him into an ambulance. The South Carolina Republican senator appears intubated and in critical condition.
It remains unclear what happened after the ambulance departed. The D.
C. Fire and EMS Department declined to provide information, citing HIPAA laws.
Graham's staff announced on X that he died after a brief and sudden illness, without offering further details.
President Trump called Graham "one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known" in a Truth Social post.
Trump also told CNN he spoke with Graham by phone the night before his death, and Graham seemed fine.
Graham, often called the "Trump Whisperer" in the Senate, was a close ally of the former president. They agreed on many issues, including Israel and Ukraine.
Graham had recently returned to the U. S.
from a trip to Ukraine, where he worked with the Trump administration on new sanctions against Russia in its ongoing war with Ukraine.
