He grabbed his right leg in pain following a punch exchange, prompting the referee to stop the fight at 1:09 of the first round.
UFC broadcaster Megan Olivi described the injury as a "right internal knee injury." Holloway was awarded a technical knockout victory.
The fight was McGregor's first in five years, following a fractured left leg suffered in a 2021 bout.
