A United Airlines flight from Shanghai to San Francisco was diverted to Tokyo after a passenger became disruptive, according to an eyewitness account on Reddit.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon on a commercial jet shortly after takeoff.
The witness reported that the passenger grew unruly and argued with crew members, accusing them of trying to "oppress" her.
When the captain approached to calm the situation, the passenger allegedly elbowed him, sparking a heated confrontation.
The plane was then diverted to Tokyo Narita Airport, where it landed shortly afterward.
Police officers boarded the aircraft and took the passenger into custody.
Video footage shows the woman screaming and throwing documents into the air before being escorted off the plane.
United Airlines confirmed the diversion in a statement, saying flight 858 landed at Narita International Airport to address a disruptive passenger.
Law enforcement met the aircraft and removed the individual. After a maintenance inspection, the flight continued to San Francisco.
