Senator Tim Kaine and TMZ DC's Australian reporter Charlie Cotton are locked in a friendly standoff over a World Cup bet.

Cotton, who is Australian, ran into Hillary Clinton's former running mate on Capitol Hill Thursday and brought up their upcoming soccer rivalry.

The US and Australia face off in Seattle, and Kaine, rooting for the home team, suggested a beer bet featuring Foster's and Samuel Adams.

But Cotton threw out several alternative wagers, each rejected by Kaine.

One proposal was a 'shoey' — an Australian tradition of drinking beer from a sneaker — but Kaine wasn't having it.

Cotton also suggested they swap clothes for a day, a idea Kaine also dismissed.

Kaine noted he's no stranger to sports bets, recalling a wager with Senator Ted Cruz after the 2019 World Series, which earned him bragging rights and barbecue.

As of now, the two haven't reached an agreement, but there's still time before kickoff.
