Xiaomi has launched a crowdfunding campaign in China for the Smart Camera 5 Pro Full-Color Night Vision.
The camera is priced at 429 yuan, roughly $64, during the campaign, and will retail for 599 yuan, about $90, afterward.
Xiaomi describes it as its first day-and-night full-color camera.
The main goal is to keep footage in color even when lighting is low, unlike many affordable security cameras that switch to black-and-white infrared at night.
Dual-lens setup and night vision modes
The Smart Camera 5 Pro uses an 8MP main sensor and a 4MP secondary sensor in a dual-lens configuration.
This setup enables 4K video output and full-color night vision.
A built-in soft light can add illumination when needed.
Xiaomi also includes several night vision modes for different situations, such as human detection, event-triggered monitoring, and a mode that avoids using a visible red light.
A local AI chip with 1.5 TOPS of processing power handles recognition tasks on the device.
It can identify people and pets and detect crying sounds without sending that processing to the cloud.
The camera uses a dual-motor pan-and-tilt system for wide coverage. It can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and move through a 174-degree vertical range.
Xiaomi positions the camera for uses including living rooms, nurseries, elder care, and pet monitoring.
For connectivity, it supports two-way voice calls, Mijia Smart Connect, and dual-band Wi-Fi 6.
Xiaomi says Wi-Fi 6 can improve transmission speeds by up to 60 percent. Storage options include microSD cards, cloud storage, and NAS.
The device also uses Xiaomi's AOR all-day low-power recording system to reduce storage use while keeping important footage available.
Privacy features include lens masking, local AI processing, and access controls.
Those additions are relevant for a camera that could be placed in private spaces such as bedrooms and nurseries.
